Why Texture Is Harder Than It Looks
Drywall texture is sprayed wet and dries into a pattern that depends on spray pressure, nozzle size, and technique, none of which are visible once it has dried. Two technically correct applications of "orange peel" texture can still look different from each other depending on how they were sprayed. See our drywall patch and texture repair service for the full process.
The Test Patch Step
For any visible or large repair area, we test the texture match on scrap board or a hidden section of the wall before touching the actual repair. This catches mismatches before they become a permanent, obvious patch.
Common Texture Types We Match
Orange peel, knockdown, smooth, and popcorn are the most common finishes in Rockwall-area homes, though hand-applied decorative textures also show up in some older homes and take more care to replicate accurately. If you are dealing with this in Rockwall, our popcorn ceiling repair page has more detail.
Why DIY Texture Matching Often Fails
Without testing the spray pattern first, or without matching the compound mix ratio, a DIY patch frequently dries looking flatter, bumpier, or differently colored than the surrounding wall, which is the most common complaint we get called in to fix.
